Bachelor of General Studies Degree Requirements

  • Completion of 120 credit hours
  • Minimum of 30 credit hours completed at Lincoln College-Normal
  • Minimum of 33 credit hours of Upper Division courses (300/400 level)
  • No more than 27 hours in a single professional/vocational school
  • No more than 21 credit hours completed in a single Arts/Sciences department/subject
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Complete LCN general education requirements or an AA, AS, AAS, AGS, or AFA from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution

Competency Courses

Grade of C or better required in each of the following:

  • ENG 101: English Composition I
  • ENG 102: English Composition II (Prereq. ENG 101)
  • SPE 101: Fundamentals of Speech
  • College Level Math, College Algebra or higher

General Studies Core (33 hours)

Complete any 33 hours in the Arts and Sciences beyond the general education requirements or associate degree distributed as follows:

  • 12 credit hours in Arts and Humanities (Courses designated with prefix ART, CMN, ENG, MUS, THE, PHL, REL, HUM, SPN, FRN)
  • 12 credit hours in Social and Behavioral Sciences (Courses designated with prefix ECO, HIS, ANT, GEO, POS, PSY, SOC)
  • 9 credit hours in Sciences and Mathematics (Courses designated with prefix MAT, BIO, GEL, CRT, or PHL 105)

Concentration Courses (18 hours)

Complete 18 hours of an additional concentration of courses in a specific field of study beyond the general education requirements or associate degree. Such concentrations may include:

  • Arts and Humanities
  • Fine Arts
  • Social Sciences
  • Criminal Justice Studies
  • Sport Management
  • Business Administration
  • Health Services Administration (only offered in ABE format)
  • Interdisciplinary Studies: (Students choosing this option must complete SIT 402: Research Project (Prereq. CRT 303: Research Methods)

Arts and Sciences Electives (9 hours)

  • Complete 9 hours of Arts and Sciences elective credits beyond the general education requirements or associate degree.

World Culture/Diversity Requirement

  • Complete 3 credit hours of World Culture or Diversity. This requirement may have been completed in general education or an associate degree.

Communications (9 hours)

Each of the following courses totaling a minimum of 9 hours:
